Art Nouveau was ahistorical style that emerged during the 1880-s. It was inspired by the earlier British Art and Crafts Movement, which was sometimes known as the “New Art”.

During 1890-s, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and designers associated with the Vienna Secession, such as Josef Maria Olbrich, introduced abstracted naturalistic forms to design that were curvilinear while others, such as Hermann Obrist and August Endell, pioneered the use of whiplash motifs.

One of the greatest exponents of Art Nouveau was the Belgian architect Victor Horta, whose Hotel Tassel (1892-1893) was one of the first expressions of the style in architecture. It’s interesting that Horta was attracted to the architectural profession at the age of twelve, when he helped his uncle on a building site at the age of twelve.

Similarly, in France, the style became known as “Style Guimard” in recognition of the writing and intertwined forms employed by Hector Guimard – most notably for his cast-iron entrances to the Paris Metro (1900). There the term “Le Style Modern” was also used to identify Art Nouveau style flourished through the work of Antonio Gaudi and his followers.

The sinuous lines and elongation of floral forms, whichreadily identify Art Nouveau, were directly inspired by the natural world rather than past styles. The reason designers of the 1890-s looked to nature for inspiration had much to do with earlier scientific research into the working of the natural world such as Charles Darwin’s treatise On the Origin Space, published in 1859, the botanical illustrations of Ernst Haeckel and the exquisite photographic flower studies taken by Karl Blossfeld rejection of historcism, Art Nouveau can be considered the first truly modern interpretation style.

As a result it was overtaken stylistically in the early 20-th century by the machine aesthetic and the avant-garde’s preference for simple geometric forms better suited to industrial production.

Knowledge of different styles and history of art can inspire you to look stylish every day.

By the way how to wear one or another clothes, the way of combination of different things though it were leather shorts or regular dress.

These days, people consider the kitchen to be the most important room in their house. Far from merely being a place where we prepare food, it’s a place for the family to hang out and somewhere for people to socialise. It’s a fact as well that a new kitchen is the one addition that can add the most value to your property. Unsurprisingly then, it’s the room that people spend the most money on.

There are so many different designs these days but one idea that remains popular is having an island in the centre of the room, if space allows of course. Here you can store kitchen utensils (or suspend them above) and can use it as a place to chop vegetables. It provides a focal point for the room.

Alternatively, invest in a nice kitchen table, which again will provide a focal point for the room and give you a place to eat sociably. If there is not enough room for these ideas, however, a shrewd way to use space would be to install stools and a breakfast bar along one wall. This makes a great alternative for family members who normally slob out on the sofas rather than the extending dining table. If at the moment you have a combined eating and preparation area, it would be a good idea to separate them. You can easily, and pretty inexpensively, add sliding or French doors, thereby creating an extra room and an aspect of privacy.

You can change the worktops in your kitchen without having to buy a brand new suite. Also consider replacing taps and door handles to instantly revamp. Additionally, spotlights look neat and modern and can be installed pretty cheaply.

I suppose Table Chair is great idea because sometimes you need an extra chair and sometimes you need a table that’s truth. These modern chairs can be either or depending on your needs. By simply pushing the two chairs together they transform into a table. Each chair has a notch to slide in one another. Now unused seating has some other place to go. When you’ve got visitors and need an extra chair or two you simply pull them apart. Tada, you got two chairs! This needs to show up at IKEA stat!

The Table Chair, by Joel Hesselgren, uses a notched, slot together design for the transformation into 1980s executive lounge coffee table, a simple and clever idea. The only problem we can see (apart from the chairs looking so damn uncomfortable) is that the slotted backs would cause the chairs to flex horribly. For occasional use only.

The 21-st annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair exhibit include contemporary furniture, seating, lighting, carpet and flooring, wall coverings, textiles, accessories, kitchen and bath, outdoor furniture, and materials for residential and commercial interiors. This event has been taking plase 16-19 May NY CIty.

Look at this
American Gothic Table by Atelier Takagi – Washington DC, USA, I guess it looks very nice:-) I won’t say no to have such table or chair as a part of my home stylish decoration.

“It’s not particularly anything”, says Jonah Takagi when speaking about his table American Gothic. I intuit that he actually means the table is not one particular style, but a fusion of influences instead. In fact here is a product that is the sum of its many parts, which Takagi has merged noticeably well, without conceptual or aesthetic loop holes.

Takagi holds a BFA in Furniture Design (RISD) and, like Searle and Adelman, he mentions the traits of authenticity, honesty and appropriateness when speaking about design process and final products, “the fact I grew up in New England surrounded by a blue blood Yankee, puritanical sensibility has something to do with it – the way I approach the work”. Further add into the mix his Japanese background (Takagi’s father is Japanese), an appreciation of tinker toys and a “nebulous, surreal design process”, and you might be able to imagine how this particular table could be thought up. These influences show themselves in the radial connector designed to join the legs and the black lacquer finish which unifies all of it.

The most fascinating aspect of this table is the sense of tension felt when you look at it. I had cognition of something being unsettled and not quite right, and then I realised that there are 5 legs. This one element is what gives the table its edginess; picturing it with less (4 or 3 even), I realise that if Takagi had not engineered this quirky mutation, it would be just a table with mismatched elements of style.

It would have been easy for Takagi to lose the design of this table to self indulgence and finish with a piece that was stylistically over-cooked and lacking quality of construction; instead the constraint and discipline used in its development has resulted in work that stands with assurance, in the spaces in-between styles.

Obviously today everyone has an idea what avant-garde is.
Some of us prefer avant-garde designed wall clocks, some of us furnish rooms with avant-garde designed furniture. Of course, this is well known stream in art and its most outstanding plenipotentiaries are such famous names as Filonov, Kandinski, Malevich, Rodchenko and more. Since the avant-garde was conceived in Russia at the end of the 19th century, the term “avant-garde” have started widely used to define attempts to forge new dimensions to our aesthetic and even political definitions of reality. Now the term ”avant-garde” refers to architects, designers, artists, writers, musicians, whose techniques and ideas are in advance of those generally known or accepted. As regards avant-garde design it has traditionally made up only a small percentage of manufactured goods, yet its influence on the history of design has been enormous.

The Wassily Chair, also known as the Model B3 chair, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925-26.

For mach of the 20 century avant-garde designers have remained outside the industrial mainstream owing to the limited appeal of their work and it has taken sometimes many years widely held tastes and attitudes to catch up. Marcel Breuer’s pioneering tubular metal furniture from the late 1920-s and early 1930-s, for instance, was not nearly as widely accepted in its own day as it was in the 1960-s and 1970-s.

The work of avant-garde is frequently given the adjective “New” – New Art, Art Nouveau, New wave – to describe its forward-looking agenda.
