One of the places where woman can brag of attires, man can bragof woman. Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” runs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York from May 7 to September 1 with an opening red-carpet gala on Monday night that was to include former “Batman” star George Clooney and actress Julia Roberts.

The exhibit examines how Superman, Batman, Spider-Man and others have influenced big-name fashion designers. The feminine figure is represented by characters such as Wonder Woman and Catwoman.

“While Batman relies on a varied arsenal of gadgetry to enable him to fight crime, Iron Man is encased in full body armor. Both serve as metaphors for defensive paranoia,” the exhibits says.

The beauty of ancient Roman fashion is lasting impact on the modern fashion industry till now. Look at new Spring 2008 Collection created by fashion designer Vera Wang and you will see that it was definitely inspired by Ancient Rome.

At first glance Roman dress appears to be identical to Greek dress in it’s draperies and design. But more close inspection reveals many important changes. Roman men generally wore two garments, the tunica and the toga. The tunica was a short woolen under garment with short sleeves. By contrast, to wear a long tunic with long sleeves was considered effeminate and was generally avoided by society as a whole. It was originally worn mainly by the working class plebes, freedmen and slaves, though its function as an undergarment for any class of people is attested. The basic garments are sewn, not pinned, and close on both sides, elaborate fabric decoration nearly disappears, and bold patterns on garments are nonexistent. Sandals, boots and shoes are common; virtually all men wear them, and many women.
Roman adult male citizens wear only one item of jewelry, a personalized signet ring that was used to make an impression in sealing wax in order to authorize documents. Jewelry looks so simple in design and execution it looks crude, even without the comparison of the fine Greek work standing in contrast to it.

Lakshmi is the new face of Hermès and that’s lovely. She is really great choice for this season’s collection especially since it was inspired by India. The campaign looks very attractively. Fresh bright colors. The Hermès Home collection and handbags and shoes with fresh bright colors and India’s motives are real nice.

Actually I’m not a big admirer of Hermès but I think highly of beauty and the sense of humour whith which the campaign was created.

Folkform gear-shaped pendant lamps.
The collection as a new perception of various materials shows what can finally happen with the combination of the original material and surfaces that try to imitate its appearance.
None of the objects are yet in serial production.

Junya Watanabe was born in Japan in 1961, and studied at the Bunkafukuso Gakuin Institute in Tokyo. He apprenticed under Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garзons, first as a pattern maker, and then enventually a designer.

Under Rei Kawakubo’s patronage, Junya Watanabe struck out on his own in 1994 to launch his own label.
Like his mentor, Watanabe’s style is deeply rooted in Comme des Garзons’s aesthetic (mix of bright and dark colors, whimsically placed or upside-down pockets, de-emphasized shoulders, extra-long sleeves), but the layering, textures and colors are slightly exaggerated.

National Stadium in Beijing, Chaina. Beijing is an old city full of beauty and mystery, but time has visibly taken its toll over the centuries. With the successful bid to host the Olympics, the ancient town has taken steps towards revealing its historic glory to the world. The stadium is a bowl shape with a red stand that looks like a nest structure. It is made of gray mining steel covered with a transparent membrane. The stadium was jointly designed by Herzog and de Meuron, Switzerland, who have also designed the “Allianz Arena” in Munich, Germany. According to designer de Meuron, it is a contemporary Chinese building, has close links with Chinese culture and is reliable in its use of techniques. In the new century it will reflect the contemporary culture of the Olympic Games. The stadium is designed for its people; the “gentle” environment shows respect to its athletes.

As big, eye-catching Olympics architecture goes, nothing may be as sustainable as the Beijing National Aquatics Center, or Water Cube, the latest cutting-edge building to open on the enormous construction site that is China. Taking the structure of soap bubbles as inspiration (and mimicking nature’s way of filling 3-d space most efficiently), PTW Architects and Arup gave the $200 million Cube an elegant, light-weight design: a rectangular box covered in iridescent bubble wrap.

It seems M.Twain said :”What a good thing Adam had. When he said a good thing, he knew nobody had said it before.” That’s right and we should envy to Adam who didn’t know a lot of things in particular that there is nothing new under the sun. Sometimes I think it’s so great to be knowing nothing then the life becomes much fascinating as in childhood and every idea, that comes to you, looks unexpectedly fresh and new. But nothing new under the sun.
